2023 Scholarship Recipient

Despite facing the profound loss of a close loved one, I have persevered and emerged as a success story. The journey of navigating adolescence as a 6th former has been marked by both challenges and triumphs, shaping me into the resilient individual I am today.

As the top performer in CAPE Communication Studies and Agricultural Science, ranking 6th in the Caribbean and 3rd nationally, I have demonstrated exceptional academic prowess and dedication to excellence. Achieving such a significant accomplishment speaks volumes about my commitment to academic excellence. Being the 1st Deputy Head Girl of St. Thomas Technical High School for 2 years now has helped me to accomplish so much. It has had such an influence on my outstanding academic achievements and has been a motivation towards my future goals. Furthermore, my involvement in various clubs has enriched my personal and professional development. While being a member of several clubs has broadened my horizons, it is my participation as the President of the Key Club that has truly shaped my aspirations. Through this club, I have developed a deep-seated passion for serving others, particularly in the medical field. The values of kindness, love, and compassion instilled in me through the Key Club have solidified my ambition to become a medical doctor, driven by a desire to alleviate the suffering of the sick and elderly. Being the second scholarship winner of the Sharon Hunter-Pennicook Scholarship was an immense honor and privilege. This opportunity has not only eased my financial burdens of pursuing higher education but has also served as a source of motivation, propelling me to strive for my goals that once seemed difficult to unlock.

As a recipient, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity it has provided me to further my studies and the encouragement to continue to chase my goals and aspirations. I am proud to say that this scholarship has helped me to lay so many blocks in my foundation, and I am encouraging the foundation to continue its invaluable work in making dreams a reality for hardworking and dedicated students of the institution.

As I look to the future, I am reminded of the words of Nelson Mandela, who once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Armed with the knowledge, skills, and experiences gained thus far, I am committed to making a positive difference in the world, one step at a time. I want to be an excellent inspiration to the future recipients and also to those who are willing to pursue a career in the medical field. My journey may have had its ups and downs, but through it all, I have emerged stronger, wiser, and more determined than ever to embrace the challenges ahead and to continue to strive for excellence
